The Teen Dances were established to give kids in the 5th through 9th grades a safe environment and a night of entertainment on Friday nights. The dances attract anywhere between 100 to 300 kids per dance. At the Dances we also provide a snack bar area where the kids can purchase candy, soft pretzels, hot dogs, pop, water, juice, etc. The Center is used during the dances with the pool tables, air hockey, foosball, other arcade type games, and an area with tables and chairs. The dances are staffed with at least eight adult chaperones consisting of Police Auxilary Officers, parents, and volunteers. The PAL Youth Committee (PYC) members also participate in the dances by setting up, helping in the snack bar, running the lockers (which provide a safe and secure place to check belongings), and clean up after the dances. The Teen Dances have been a real success for our PAL program by providing mentors and building relationships with our youth.
Friday nights (during the school year) EPAL has their teen dances. They are only Friday nights DURING the school year. If there is no school, or school gets cancelled on a Friday where there is a dance scheduled, the dance would be cancelled as well.
